Clayton County Opens Cooling Centers to Combat Heat

As temperatures soar, Clayton County has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and comfort of its residents. Starting Monday, July 1, 2024, the county has opened five cooling centers to the public.


These centers are strategically located at local county recreation centers, providing a refuge from the heat for all community members.

Clayton County Parks & Recreation Centers Business Hours: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM**


1. Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center

- Address: 3499 Rex Road, Rex, GA 30273


2. Virginia Gray Recreation Center

- Address: 1475 East Fayetteville Road, Riverdale, GA 30274


3. Jim Huie Recreation Center & Steve Lundquist Aquatic Center

- Address: 9045 Tara Boulevard, Jonesboro, GA 30236


4. Lake Spivey Recreation Center

- Address: 2300 Walt Stephens Road, Jonesboro, GA 30236


5. South Clayton Recreation Center

- Address: 1837 McDonough Road, Hampton, GA 30228
