Community Spotlight- Unveiling Clayton County's Heart- Meet Jewann K. Hunt

Can you share a bit about your background and how long you've been a part of the Clayton County community?

I am a Georgia native (Grady baby) and have been living in Clayton County for the majority of my life. I graduated from Mt. Zion High School and actually went to Clayton State College before it became a part of the University system. So, I would say I have been living in Clayton County for over 30 years. I am a visual artist that works with charcoal, pastels, art markers, and ink. I create portraiture artworks and pop art as well. I am currently a part of art festivals and art shows in and around the Atlanta area.

Jewann K Hunt, visual artist, I can be reached through email, jewannh@artbyjkhunt.com, Home | Artbyjkhunt, and social media, @artbyjkhunt, Instagram and Facebook.

What do you think are the greatest strengths of Clayton County?

I believe the greatest strengths of Clayton County are the ability for business growth, the affordability of housing in the majority of the county, and the location that allows for quick access to Atlanta, and events in the area.

In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges facing Clayton County right now?

In my opinion one of the biggest challenges facing Clayton County is the amount of growth that has created more and more traffic issues, creating longer commute times. Also, over time, I have seen crime in some areas increase.

Can you share a memorable experience or event that highlights the sense of community in Clayton County?

One of the events that gave me a sense of community was when the Riverdale community center was built, and that space was used to host events that brought the community together. Concerts and seasonal events were had there, and it impressed me that this community center was built and that it was truly used to bring the community together.

How do you personally contribute to or engage with the Clayton County community?

I have interacted with the community by becoming a homeowner in Clayton County, planting my roots firmly in the community by having a permanent piece of land in the county, with that land having the ability to be passed down from generation to generation, which means that my family will be rooted in this county as well for years to come.
