Can you share a bit about your background and how long you've been a part of the Clayton County community?
I embody the roles of mother, nurse, author, filmmaker, singer, podcast host, and more. My journey has been intricately linked with Clayton County since 2004, showcasing a narrative of triumph, creativity, and community support that has propelled me into the multifaceted achiever I am today. Within the healthcare sector, my compassion and expertise shone brightly, particularly during my tenure as a nurse at the Clayton County Jail, where I delivered care in a challenging setting. However, my aspirations and talents stretched beyond the confines of nursing.
My literary journey in Clayton County led to the creation of a compelling three-book series: "This Can't Be Love," "The Love House," and "Ladies Delight," which have garnered international acclaim. My transition into filmmaking brought these narratives to the screen, with "The Love House" and "This Can't Be Love" achieving over 104,000 views on YouTube. Notably, "This Can't Be Love" was a labor of love, requiring seven years to write and film, and a decade to release.
The Clayton County Library played a crucial role in these projects, aiding in casting This Can't Be Love through outreach to its patrons. My creative endeavors in Clayton County also led to a significant collaboration with Atlanta-based super producer Mr. Hanky, known for hits like "Living My Best Life" and "Twerkulator." Together, we created the songs "Open Doors" and "Superwoman". Superwoman is the feature song for the movie "This Can't Be Love," showcasing my musical talent and Mr. Hanky's production genius. My podcast "On The Move Unscripted", further extends my influence, offering a platform where diverse voices and stories can be shared, reflecting my commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding.
What do you think are the greatest strengths of Clayton County?
I believe the strengths of Clayton County are in how the community joins together and helps each other, especially in times of crisis. This truth was evident during the period of 2010 - 2015, a time when busing was stopped in Clayton County, and the residents joined together and began carpooling.
In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges facing Clayton County right now?
In my opinion one of the challenges is when residents are not able to get much needed financial or emergency assistance from other counties such as Dekalb or Fulton County. Especially during times when Clayton County has run out of funding. I feel that Clayton County should sow more into other counties so that this practice does not continue.
Can you share a memorable experience or event that highlights the sense of community in Clayton County?
My most memorable experience is when the Clayton County Library assisted me and sent out messages about my movie audition to all their patrons. Over 100 residents of Clayton County showed up to audition, some who had never acted before, and were eager for the opportunity. That was a day to remember.
How do you personally contribute to or engage with the Clayton County community?
Although I no longer live in Clayton County, I still travel there to eat, shop, and attend events. Beyond my artistic and professional achievements, Clayton County is the backdrop to significant life milestones, including the birth of my youngest son at Southern Regional Hospital, and my evolution into the resilient and dynamic woman I am today. It's a place I still proudly call home, regardless of where my global travels and endeavors may take me.
