Community Spotlight- Unveiling Clayton County's Heart- Meet Tee Briggs

Updated: Feb 26

Can you share a bit about your background and how long you've been a part of the Clayton County community?

I visited GA off and own for 4yrs prior to moving here permanently. I fell in love with everything southern living had to offer my son and me. Having raised my daughters in predominantly white suburbs and them expressing feeling disconnected from their peers once they joined HBCU’s I was determined to have a different outcome for my son who was 5 at the time I decided to make my move. I relocated to GA from the Midwest in September of 2022, and bought my first home in Clayton County in June of 2023.

What do you think are the greatest strengths of Clayton County?

I believe the greatest strengths I’ve experienced so far firsthand are the educators and how they genuinely care about the success of each student, the police officer's way of being attentive to the community needs, the elected officials have been out on the front lines being a part of meaningful community engagement, from free concerts in the park to school supply giveaways and vendor resource fairs.

In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges facing Clayton County right now?

Crime is big in the county in certain areas as you hear about it and you see things here and there, but there isn’t one time I haven’t felt safe in my immediate area or surrounding areas. The team of officers are always nearby somewhere ready to protect and serve.

I’m apart of some of the mom groups in the area, not my personal experience as my son's principal and the faculty at Michelle Obama STEM are always on top of business so I feel they catch issues well become they escalate into anything big, but I hear a lot about school violence and bullying.

Can you share a memorable experience or event that highlights the sense of community in Clayton County?

The community leaders had a concert with Ginuwine performing at Mayor Park over the summer where independent business owners came out and offered services to the community from free haircuts from local barbers to food, bounce houses, free water tests, school supplies, and live music. There has been car shows during Halloween months, free light shows during Christmas, blood drives, board meetings open to public opinion on matters affecting education, just about anything a community can ask for, I’ve seen Clayton County provide.

How do you personally contribute to or engage with the Clayton County community?

I’m a big advocate for being involved in the community not just talking about the problems but finding solutions and a way to serve, so within the first month of being in the community I joined the board of a group called M.A.T.S (Mothers and Their Sons). We focus on empowering, supporting, uplifting and being a resource community for one another to have boys who are equipped with the tools early on to become men of promise with strong mothers leading the charge.

We camp, volunteer in the community, offer tutoring, and so much more. I’ve also volunteered at school events, joined this volunteer group recently and volunteer with my Real Estate team as a resource to the community.

Within our first couple of months in the community my son was in a community pageant and won Little Mr. Hampton. We participated in a parade after the pageant and passed out care packages to the community.

I’m just getting started out here and hope to be involved in so many other ways. October of 2023, I relocated a client from California to a home in Clayton County, helping them to increase the income gap while growing a love and appreciation for the community around them.  We still keep in contact, and they have been extremely pleased with their choice to move into the community over all of the other communities they visited.

If someone wanted to get in contact with you, how would they?
